MODULE II

 Introduction

The creation of content using AI is used commonly nowadays. In areas like design of imagens, creation of videos, edit of audios, etc. Using these tools for the creation of didactic content applying to the ELT is a possibility that should be take into account for teacher so that the possibilities to use them are unlimited. In the beginning of the course, I did not have an idea how many tools can be used for improving the capacity to teach students a new language and boost all the skills they are increasing while they are studying it. My expectation for this module II were to use accurately the tools that can be displayed during the model and know a way to use them when I should apply them during my teaching classes in a good way impacting in my student learning process in a positive way. My initial thoughts about the model were to be impressive how much tools can improve the teaching process in ELT, but also how awesome these tools are to save the teacher time and make him more efficient in his work. When I start to know tools like Read Theory, Reading Coach, Elsa Speak, or brisk it blew my mind. It was incredible to learn how these AI can improve the receptive skills of the students like to boost their reading comprehension, and their listening, and the productive skills like improving writing, and speaking. Also, a special mention for the bot creation we learn on this module II. I did not have any idea how to create a bot and the way in which I had to train it, or how to obtain the correct answer from the bot. That was something that really worry me to face that during this module. That was something that called my attention from this module so that I thought that these bots have potential to be use for students when they need to solve their doubts of the English Language and can be a tool in which they can feel free to ask, available all the time, and boots them during the process.

Development

During this module, I learned many elements that will help me in my teacher training as well as my students in their academic formation. In the beginning of the module, we started by getting to know again how IA can help teachers and not be a reason to be afraid of it or be our foe. Generative IA came to help us directly in cases such as revision of evaluations and correction of errors that we may not notice as humans of course can make allusions, but we may be able to correct them. We also made a reflection that it was easy to follow and create AI content also that it was very successful in correcting errors and helping the student to improve and produce results in a natural way in writing using this type of Artificial Intelligence. Moreover, we started learning how to create original content for our classes to get out of monotony and create unique and eye-catching things for the students among those tools we learned from Diffit to create texts and worksheets with activities, Suno AI to create original songs with our themes and words of choice, and AI Comic factory to create comics based on our choice for the story.

After that, we started to learn about tools specifically for reception and production skills. Among the reception skills some of them were Read Theory which is a very complete tool able to match the level of the students with their texts and creates tests of the readings it provides, reading coach which mixes reading with pronunciation able to help students learn vocabulary but also pronunciation and finally Chat GPT as a way to create personalized text that allow students to improve their reading skill. Moreover, we learned many tools for production skills during this module. Among the tools we learned were the use of the Elsa Skill app capable of helping students practice their vocabulary and testing their level in situations that the app generates, Grammarly a platform that serves to correct grammatical errors as well as helps to strengthen the level of text composition. and also, through AI, you can find solutions, like advice to improve the quality of texts. Additionally, in this module, we saw AI to practice speaking skills, such as using Copilot with its read-aloud mode or ChatGPT. Chatterpix to create images with our voices. Tools like Perplexity or Claude to search for scientific information for research, Brisk tool to make quizzes and summaries of YouTube videos, Magic School with tools to practice dynamically with students. HeyGen, an AI from which we learned to create videos with human avatars saying what we wrote. Additionally, we learned about creating a bot as a learning assistant which through our training (knowledge it will learn) would be able to provide solutions and help students in the subject it was designed for.

This module gave me a broad overview of AI tools for use during the learning process and challenged my previous understanding of teaching English a lot because before, I spent a lot of time searching for content, activities, or creating lessons. But now, with the use of AI like Brisk, for example, this can be reduced to a matter of minutes. Additionally, I thought that resolving doubts through emails or in classes was enough, but the virtual assistant bot that we can create is something that truly came to change my knowledge of English language teaching.

The key concepts of this module will greatly help me in my future English language teaching. What I learned in this module, I plan to apply in the creation of personalized educational content for my students so that it is not boring for them, but on the contrary, to make my classes dynamic and attractive for them. I also plan to apply it in my lesson planning, as planning a class takes a lot of time, but now, with the AI tools from this module, this can be simplified.

KEY LEARNING AND CONCLUSION

The influence of the different concepts I have learned in this module will have a significant impact on my teaching methods when planning my classes. I now understand the existence of AI tools that allow for natural and profound improvement of students' skills in English, such as the Read Theory tool, which provides texts for students to practice reading at their own pace and learn vocabulary while I, as a teacher, can observe their progress and current reading level. This knowledge is something I plan to incorporate into my teaching methods to enhance the reading skill. Additionally, it has changed the way I create lesson plans, as I can now generate the foundation of a lesson plan using tools like Magic School or Brisk based on my students' English level, their grade, and a specific unit or topic. This knowledge completely transforms my class planning method, though I don't plan to use it solely by applying what the AI suggests. I will still add my personal touch and change things I don't find appropriate for the lesson. However, this doesn't negate the fact that my teaching methods have been greatly benefited by this new way of planning classes with lesson plans, macro lesson plans, using artificial intelligence.

This module has also influenced my way of creating activities and content for my classes. Now, using a prompt, I can create a text based on a specific topic with a structure, summarize YouTube videos with one click, and generate a quiz for my students. This will have a significant impact on my educational methodology as a teacher. Something that will influence my teaching methods is the implementation of a learning bot. I never considered it to be so useful, mainly because I didn't know how to create one, but now with the knowledge from this module, I know how to do it and understand the impact and help it can provide in the educational process of my students. This is an important point that will be part of my teaching methods in the future.

Now, with the knowledge obtained from this module, I can assert that if I wanted to apply what I learned in a case, it would be in explaining the present perfect tense. I would use Magic School or Brisk to generate a lesson plan based on this topic, specifying the types of activities I would like for practice, such as reading, speaking and writing. I would adjust the organization based on what I consider appropriate, prioritizing my methodology above all. To create reading activities, I would use Deffit to create personalized texts based on their English level, and I would use Reading Progress to practice the contextual use of the present perfect tense. For writing, I would use Magic School to create a written activity where they can practice the structures, and I would ask Brisk to create a quiz based on a video that uses the present perfect structure. For speaking practice, I could give Brisk the option to create a scenario where the studied structure is used. If I need images to complete the lesson, I can use a prompt in Copilot that can allow my students practice the perfect presente tense using the option talk loud of the copilot of the option voice with chat GPT and if I need a song for testing my student learning from the topic Suno AI to generate songs based on the present perfect tense and gives them the lyrics to them for completing it, making that activity a good way to listen original music and a good way to learn vocabulary and structure in context. There are many possibilities for a simple topic, and this is something I conclude from the module: we now have many tools to make dynamic classes with a greater impact on students. This is the example I would use to plan a class using the knowledge learned in this module.

The reason I chose this AI material for the entry of this module is because it represents the artificial intelligences we learned about and those that, in my opinion, are most useful in my content creation for the class. I included material that improves listening skills such as Suno AI, reading skills such as generated texts or comics, and writing skills such as production exercises with AI-created material. I think these materials reflect the most important concepts learned in this module, which is the creation of personalized activities and content that can be adapted to the educational topic and environment.
